HMI collaborates with the Senate of Serampore College in offering an M.Th. degree in Islam. Students enrol at Serampore after passing an entrance examination held by the Senate of Serampore. The Serampore M.Th. programme consists of 40 credits worth of courses, and Serampore M.Th. students will normally take 20 of those credits under the auspices of HMI (typically 4 credits of Arabic language, 4 credits of Islamic Religion and 12 credits of thesis research). 2. Master of Arts in Islamic Studies, Luther Seminary, U.S.A. HMI has an agreement, whereby HMI will send selected M. A. level students to the M. A. in Islamic Studies programme at Luther Seminary in the United States, normally to take one semester of courses totaling 10 credits.

HMI has an agreement, whereby HMI will send selected M. A. level students to the M. A. in Islamic Studies programme at Luther Seminary in the United States, normally to take one semester of courses totaling 10 credits. HMI hosts Luther Seminary students who wish to study Islam in South Asia and/or Christian-Muslim relations. As part of their M. A. in Islamic Studies programme at Luther Seminary, those students normally take a course load of one term of ten credits at HMI.
PH. D. PROGRAMMES
HMI collaborates with the Frije University, Amsterdam, and the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands, in offering a Ph. D. in Islam in Asia and Christian-Muslim relations. Students enrol at their degree-granting institution and then come to HMI to conduct their research. HMI's doctoral programme lasts for three years full-time or six years part-time. During the first academic year the student will take two research seminars and by the end of the first academic year will submit the thesis topic. The remaining years are devoted to the thesis writing under regular supervisors. |
