Aman Shanti Nilayam
HMI has its own campus named Aman Shanti Nilayam (peaceful abode) Aman in urdu Shanti in hindi and Sanskrit means peace and Nilayam in hindi means abode. It is located at Shivarampally, Hyderabad, and 11km from downtown (about 25 minute's drive). The campus consists of a hostel, a programme building, interfaith prayer hall and guest house.
From 1971 to 2004 Institute functioned at our old campus at Abids, Hyderabad then we shifted to the new campus at Shivarampally, Near National Police Academy with a sprawling garden and lawns consisting of five acres
The Programme Building includes multi-functional classrooms (designed to accommodate both academics and praxis oriented study), a large hall to accommodate 100 people and another for 40 people and an audio-visual room on the first floor. The library occupies the entire second floor with windows and balconies looking out onto the orchard and grounds. The ground floor has workspaces for the HMI staff and a common dining area. Other user groups can avail of the conference hall and workshop facilities whenever available.
Interfaith Prayer Hall is used for devotional meetings, morning prayers and meditation. This is a domed structure with low walls and having access through two entrances set to the north-south axis. Being without doors, the Hall will be accessible at all times for people of all faiths for prayer and meditation.
Hostel
The hostel provides accommodation for a maximum of 80 residents over a 3-storeyed structure. This facility is used to house HMI guests, students and scholars. It is also on offer to other NGOs and organisations to conduct residential workshops and retreats.
On the ground floor we have a common dining hall which can seat 40 people at a time, 11 double occupancy bedrooms and a single-bedroom suite.
The first floor has 11 bedrooms of double occupancy and 2 single bedroom suites along with a common kitchen facility for residents as well as a recreation hall.
Out of a total of 36 bedrooms, 12 rooms on the second floor are meant to accommodate workshop participants. A workshop hall for 40 people is housed on the same floor. This space is used for HMI's workshops at present. Other organisations are invited to use the premises on a hire basis, which serves as a means to raise resources to run the hostel.
Each floor has a common hot-water collection point from where residents may collect solar-heated water. All the bedrooms open out onto little lobby spaces (rather than corridors) created for the interaction of residents. The entire building is airy and cool during summer.
