Aman Shanti Nilayam - An ideal location for a retreat/ conference / workshop

All the HMI residential and conference facilities are available to its partner organizations and other NGO’s to conduct residential workshops, conferences and retreats.

The HMI campus ‘Aman Shanti Nilayam’ is located on the Bangalore highway at Shivarampally, about 10 km from Hyderabad’s Nampally Station. It has a quiet, close-to-nature ambience with large open spaces, fruit orchards and lawns in a 5-acre plot set well back from the highway. A tree-lined avenue runs along the boundary wall.

The Interfaith Prayer Hall, located in the middle of the orchard, is the place where the HMI community begins its day – with a morning devotion at 9.30 am. Every member of the community, be it student or staff member, guest or volunteer, is provided an opportunity to lead these interfaith devotions, making it a warm, rich and enlightening experience to all who attend. The prayer hall is designed in such a way as to make it acceptable to people of all faiths. Encircled by a sloping grass lawn, its cool stone floors, rough granite walls and slim white columns are soothing and natural, enabling meditation and prayer. It has a large dome inlaid with white and blue glazed chips and an opening at the top. The entrance ways facing north and east have neither doors nor gates, permitting access at all times to all who choose to enter.

Lodging - a home away from home
The Aman Shanti Nilayam has provided residential accommodation for over 5 years to a wide range of people from different countries, faiths, cultures, traditions and occupations. The 3-story 80-bed hostel provides accommodation for HMI guests, students and scholars. The hostel staff is like a close knit family, serving as a strong support structure, especially for the long-term residents. The many friendships forged here are often sustained over the years and across continents.

The hostel building is cool, airy and spacious. Each cluster of rooms open out into a bright lobby where residents can meet and interact. A large solar heater provides hot water in the cooler months, with common water outlets for the residents on each floor. Residents who wish to make a simple snack or coffee can use the common dining hall cum kitchen on the first floor. This facility has basic cooking services like a gas stove, refrigerator, electric oven and a few cooking utensils. Also housed in the first floor are a recreation hall, student computers and a television.

The single and double occupancy rooms and two one-bedroom suites are housed in the ground and first floors. Second floor rooms are mainly 3 and 4-bed dormitories, providing lodging for a maximum of 40 residents.

Guest houses
Inaugurated in December 2005, as part of our Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the HMI guest house is a new facility. Set in the north east end of the campus, it has a pleasant view and is well ventilated. This 3-story block consists of a fully furnished 2-bedroom apartment on each floor. Solar heated bath water is supplied year round through a central pipeline to each apartment. This facility is made available to visiting staff, scholars and other NGO’s.

Conference/ workshop facilities and resources

Three large conference/workshop rooms are available at ASN.

One hall, with a seating capacity of forty, is located in the Programme Building. A similar-sized hall in the Hostel building has an attached open air terrace looking out onto the prayer hall. This hall is used mostly for residential workshops, as it is near to all hostel rooms. Another hall with a seating capacity of 100 people is on the first floor of the Programme Building.

All the halls are bright, spacious and airy, fitted with large white boards and a range of equipment at hand, internet connectivity, and access to the audio-visual room and library above. HMI can provide audio-visual equipment like an LCD projector, slide viewer and projector, cordless PA systems, DVD player and television.

The library occupies the entire second floor of the Programme Building with windows and balconies looking out onto the orchard and grounds. HMI staff work in office spaces on the ground floor. User groups can avail of the conference hall and workshop facilities whenever available.
