» Aman Shanti Community Development projects

Women’s Unit creates safe space for women where classes in tailoring, embroidery, etc are offered to provide them with useful skills for generating income. This women’s unit also fosters communal harmony by giving Hindu and Muslim women a platform where they can share their views, get awareness on health issues, discuss day-to-day news, issues related to women and gender, that would help them to develop their confidence and leadership abilities for promoting interfaith dialogue. The following are the activities conducted at the women’s units:

1. Tailoring classes
2. Art and craft trainings
3. Self help groups
4. Income generation programmes
5. Students meetings
6. Outing

Programmes / Activities

Interfaith Primary School is run for the young children, who are unable to attend the local schools due to financial constraints. This school is specifically aimed at fostering goodwill and helping to bridge gaps between the divided communities. Peace friendly curriculum and activities like ‘Play for peace’ and interactive classes enable children to develop respect and understanding towards other faiths. The following are the activities conducted at the school :

1. Regular classes up to 4th standard
2. Nutrition programmes - mid morning snacks
3. Play for peace programmes
4. Parents meetings to motivate them to involve in peace processes
5. Picnic

Programmes / Activities

Health clinics focus on the health needs of the community. Health education of the community is a central focus of the clinics' activities. The following are the activities conducted at the clinic:

1. Regular clinic
2. Specialized health camps
3. Referral services
4. Health talks

Literacy / Language programmes and reading room sessions are organized with an aim to empower and equip people with the knowledge and skills that can help them to grow as leaders.

Interfaith programmes involve cultural exchange and social awareness activities that are organized toencourage attitudinal changes and to broaden women's and men's perspectives towards building a peaceful society. The following are the activities organized as part of the above programme:

Interfaith festival celebrations
Interfaith picnics
Capacity building sessions on Peace &conflict transformation
General and social awareness

Mentoring

Mentoring is one of the crucial aspects of the community development programmes. Under this initiative people from varied backgrounds are trained in the practical aspects of community development and interfaith dialogue. The following groups are trained under this programme

  • Social Work students
  • HMI's PGDCT students
  • Study groups
  • World wide research scholars, interns and volunteers from different study backgrounds, who are interested in learning and understanding the practical models of peace building and interfaith dialogue.
