Programme
Goal
This programme is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of conflict
transformation and peace building to women and men, especially from areas
troubled by violent societal conflict, and enable them to make significant
contributions towards peace in their own regions and contexts.
Programme
Objectives
To learn about conflict transformation-concepts, theories, analytical
frame works and to also create appropriate intervention strategies in
conflict settings.
To understand peace building-theories, strategies and local-global communities
involved in peace building.
To understand interfaith relations by learning about different religions
and looking at how religion can be a source of conflict and peace
To equip with various skills related to conflict transformation and peace
building and interfaith relations.
To gain practical experience through analyzing case studies and through
field placements

Methodology
The course is offered in three segments which each emphasize experiential
learning through participation in class room setting, group discussions,
workshops, seminars, field work and research:

Applications are invited from those who have:
• Bachelors Degree
• Experience or commitment to community development, peace building and
interfaith relations
• Good written and verbal command of the English language
Course
Duration
Ten Months: 30 June 2008 to 25 April 2009
The first 3 months (July-Sept) is an introduction to the main concepts
in conflict transformation, peace building and interfaith relations. Upon
completion of this portion of the course, students are eligible to receive
a certificate.
The
next 3 month term (Oct-Dec) focuses more in depth into regional concerns
and specific topics of concern. After completion of the 6 months of course
work, students are eligible to receive a diploma.
Students
then have the option to continue in a 3 month (Jan-Mar) internship placement
site in one of HMI’s partner organizations, or a site of their choice
in their own context to gain valuable experience in grassroots involvement.
This part of the course ends with a month (Apr) of writing a research
paper and presentation at HMI. Upon completion of the full 10 months,
students are eligible to receive a post graduate diploma.
Course
Fee
Cost for the ten-month programme for applicants from SAARC* countries
is Rs. 28,000 and Rs. 62,200 for non-SAARC applicants. This amount covers
registration, tuition, course materials, field exposure visits, and basic
costs for the 3 month internship (transportation, board and lodge). It
does not include room and board at HMI, personal needs, medical costs,
visa fees (where applicable), or general transportation.
Participants
are expected to raise their own funds for attending the programme. HMI
may be able to provide limited financial assistance for those unable to
raise the needed amount.
*
SAARC countries are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldive, Nepal,
Pakistan, and Srilanka, but these fees may also apply to some other Global
South participants.
Registration
To enroll, complete the attached application form and send it to us by
May 16, 2008. Upon notification of acceptance, applicants will need to
confirm their attendance by sending a non-refundable registration fee
of Rs. 2500 (SAARC) or Rs. 5200 (non SAARC) by Demand Draft, Pay Order,
or International Money Order.
